Brass Urn and tangerine

Brass Urn and tangerine: 9" x 12" oil on linen $250

Hey folks, I started a painting my last Mississauga art society meeting but sort of went of the rails, so scraped it, but decided to give it another go, turned out a little better.

On another note, my Oil painting basics course is going well, last week we made colour wheels, oh what fun, this week coming, Value, should be fun. You know you think you really understand something until you have to explain it.

Peace out

Blue Monday

So apparently this is the most depressing day of the year, best of luck today, I guess people start to realize we are in the dead of winter and it's going to be a long time before it started to warm up, not so much for me today.

So it's been a great week, Tuesday I started teaching at Visual Arts Mississauga as a Intro to Oil painting Instructor, went well for my very first time teaching, all my students were very eager to learn, and had a lot of fun doing it, looking forward to the next 7 weeks.

I also just received word that 2 of my paintings sold while at the TAG gallery in St. Catharines So exciting. Overflow and Summers' Muse off to their new forever home.

No painting to post today, I started a sketch on Thursday, it was going pretty well but fell off the rails mid way through, I did like the concept, so I will start over, I have a busy week so it might be awhile though please bare with me.

Talk to you soon

Clementines and leaves

Clementines and Leaves Oil on 20" x 16" wrapped canvas $500

Welcome to my first painting of 2014

This was a learning experience that's for sure, since my last post I have been working and reworking and working some more then changing my original idea, hate when that happens as I am all about planning. Overall this has a nice feel to it.

The cloth I had everything sitting on was a woven rug with a pretty complex pattern and I choose to completely ignore it for better or worse as it was getting too distracting. I think what I really like is the background elements are really blended and items in the foreground have nice loose bold brush stokes, this works for me.

Happy New year

Happy 2014, I hope it is a great year for all of you.

Although sales haven't been exactly where I would like them to be, 2013 was a good year for me, my work has steadily improved over the year and even though I complain about how I struggle constantly, I do see glimmers of hope with each painting I produce, just takes time and patience. For example if you look at my last painting "Warmth" from my last post and compare it to the 1st painting I produce in 2013, I see a remarkable change.

This year I have some big plans or goals, I have already applied to a few major art events, and planning to have a solo show in the late summer early fall so stay tuned for more details. I am also thinking about taking a a few workshops this year, have a few in mind.

I have also been approached to teach a course on oil painting basics so if you live close to Mississauga why not come study with me, here are the details, Although it is a basic course I plan to include some more advanced techniques and thoughts on painting in general.

Have a great year and thanks for all your support!
