Title: Disperse Oil on 5" x 7" raymar panel

Still playing around with the limited palette made famous by "Zorn" starting to understand it a little better, I was tempted to add another colour but held firm. This painting is about negative space and leading the eye through the painting using the shapes in the fabric. I for one love the pink cup here, my wife isn't a big fan of it so she sighs every time I paint it but I Can't help myself.

Title: Cups Oil on 5" x 7" Raymar gessoboard

Yet another experiment using the "Zorn" limited colour palette, which is Ivory Black, Cad Red med. Yellow Ochre and white, As there is a bit disagreement on the exact palette of colours he used, looking at his work I would have to assume he also used Cerulean Blue, so I to used that as well.

I like the warm and cool earth tones I can achieve but find it difficult to getting really intense colours, but the point in using this palette seems to be more about shifts in colour rather then intensity.

Folk water jug

Folk Water jug, Oil on 8" x 10" canvas

for the last few days I have been working on this on and off, I was looking to do a little experiment with colour or to be more specific limited colour so I decided to give a try Anders Leonard Zorn's palette which is Ivory black, yellow ochre, Cad Red medium and white. Some people also think he used cerulean blue as well and after trying this out I tend to think so as well. This palette is based on earth toned primaries. I must say this was a bit difficult to work with but some things worked out so I think I will play around a bit more.

Cantaloupe Slices

Hi Everybody,

Here is my latest painting.
Title: Cantaloupe Slices, Oil on 10" x 8" wrapped canvas $200

This one seemed to come together all by it's self, love when that happens, as it doesn't happen to often. Not much on eating Cantaloupe but I love the colour. I tried document my process for those that are interested I have included an animated gif and the final image, sorry there isn't more for images the green vase but I was on a roll and forgot to snap a pic.

Title: Planes 12" x 16" Oil on wood panel. $400.00

Hey so how is everyone doing this fine day? So with this painting I was trying a few things out specifically the use of planes, vertical and horizontal and negative space. The goal of course was to lead the eye through the painting, I also deliberately choose use a  layout the composition vertically (portrait). I think this exercise really helped me think this through a little more than usual and I have starting using a lot ore transitional colours of late, starting to understand them a little more.

As always if you are interested in owning this painting or seeing more of me work drop by my website @

Spot of Tea

Spot of Tea, 5" x 7" Oil still life on Raymar panel

This teapot has been hanging around the house for some time now, not sure why I haven't looked at it before.

I tried to pay attention to the warm subtle earth tones with this one, so the main focus would really draw the attention it deserves.

I have been busy planning my year or at least the next few months, and I just realized I have a group show to get ready for in early spring and then another in the fall and then a  solo Art in the park deal and a major show that I want to get into this summer, deadlines are approaching quickly, EEEK!
I better get cracking.

Creamer and sake cup

Creamer and sake cup - Oil on 5" x 7" Raymar panel

Available on Dailypaintworks here Staring bid is $45.00

This one I am not entire unhappy with, it started out great but ran into some problems about half way through, initially I had a tangerine where the sake cup is, tried painting it four times and it just wasn't working out, so I pitched it. Anyway all is good, I will try again at some point for for now tangerines and oranges only for eating.  It's hard to look at this one without seeing the struggle I had with this so not sure if it worked out, jury is still out on this one.

Let me know what you think.

Anyway enjoy.
