Turnip Royale

Title: Turnip Royale
Medium: Oil on 11" x 14" wood panel $350.00

So here is the final version of this painting, before I started I had planned to do a complete white study but changed my mine just before I started, I pumped up the colour contrast a bit I also added a purple piece of paper under the objects which is hidden due to the eye level view this was to to cast purple reflections on everything.

Feel free to email me here if you want to chat or interested in buying this painting. Comes ready to hang and shipping is included in the price anywhere in North America.

turnips wip cont'd

Just a quick update before I call it a night, were getting there, by the time I get back to this it may be late in the afternoon tomorrow, hopefully it won't be dried out by then. I love the colour interaction with using compliments, so pleasing to the eye.

Turnip wip

Here is my current painting on my easel, spent about 2 hours on this so far this afternoon, managed to block in all major areas, but started to struggle a bit after painting the turnip with the white sugar bowl and lid, probably not very recognizable at the moment but trust me that's what the are. So I am stopping for a bit to regain my composure, as it's getting close to dinner time, and I guess it won't make it's self apparently.  If I build up enough courage I will get back to this later tonight and post again but if not maybe post tomorrow afternoon.

Til then

Really it's Wednesday?

Wow where did the week go already, This past weekend I participated in the annual VAM members Valentine's day show, they added a new element this year, "Best in Show" which would be displayed for an extra week at the VAM headquarters in Mississauga. It was a nice event but again, wasn't selected for the best in show, a really lot of great artists here in town so there was quite a few nice pieces to choose from. Just means I still have some work to do. Someone I met while picking up my painting at the closing on Sunday said I should have been included which was nice of her to say as she has some really nice work.

Well, so it's Wednesday and I have yet to pick up a brush this week, I have been a bit busy with the business end of painting, picking up supplies and items to paint, and I joined something here in town called ALFEW (artists looking for empty walls) this membership allows me to participate in at 4 themed shows a year, ,mostly small venues from what I can see but at least this gives me chance to show my work on a regular basis and meet with other local artists and maybe generate a few sales here and there along the way.

So I think I will sketch out my next painting tonight and get to it, I have quite a few hours blocked in for painting tomorrow and Friday, wish me luck

He's standing right behind me isn't he?

Title: He's standing right behind me isn't he? Oil on 11" x 14" wood panel $350

Well I tried to remember the lessons learned from my last failed painting, and I wanted to make sure I stayed focused with this one, paying attention to value and colour relationships and thankfully this came together really quickly, with no real reworking involved. Love the way this pear looked when I picked it up, looked like it was on fire as 1 side is a very warm orange.

No one left behind - update

Well, I know I said I would continue on with my latest painting but upon much reflection and analysis of it I have decided that this one has a date with a camp fire at later date. Should burn up good too as I use wood panels with oil.

I have been struggling from the start and now I know why, I had been readjusting ellipses and perspective over and over and it just wasn't working out, I was missing the obvious in that it just wasn't planned out very well and it was doomed even before I started to paint. Let that be a lesson for everyone, planning is probably the most important step to any painting. Anyway I have prepped a bunch of new panels this morning so looking forward to moving on.

This week I got my letter from the colour and form society and was sad to find out I hadn't be selected to join there group, oh well maybe next year. Visual Arts Mississauga is holding there annual Valentine's day show this coming weekend so I am getting my submission ready today.

Talk to you soon

No one left behind.

So it's I had a bit more time to put into my latest painting and I did manage to work through some of the issue I am having with it so it is coming along, I have never really been stuck on a painting for such a long time, but after starring at it for the last few days I have an idea on what's going on with it. My plan for going forward with this is to do a little each day and work through this one, I thought about just putting it away and reusing the panel for something else, but I have decided to make a learning experience out of it, I may turn out OK but then again it may not, but at least I will gain something from it either way.

Enjoy and if you have any ideas let me know, as comments or critiques are always welcome.

Happy ground Hog day

Not sure what all the fuss is about I guess ground hogs have to be useful for something.

Been a busy week, did get some time to paint but not much, I started a new painting which was to be a companion to the last one, stacked blue cups,  but this time I am using brown cups, just to change it up a bit. as you can see below.

Just the early stages of course but you can see where I was headed, I have put a fair amount of time into this one, and stepped back and noticed most of my objects were not drawn very well, so I spent the next day or 2 fixing them and just sort of left it there, and I have been staring at it ever since. Something is still not right with it. Debating whether it's worth continuing or move on to something else, I do like the light brown vase with the orange butterfly so maybe for that it worth saving but not sure. Even now looking at it while writing this post I see a few more items to correct, hmmm. Gonna have to put the paint on pretty thick to cover all the old brushwork.

Anyway thought I would update everyone as to where I have been this week.
Have a good one
