Bottles

Title: Bottles
Medium: Acrylic on 9 x 12 Canvas panel

So bottles it is,This started out great but quickly changed direction, when I set this one up I loved the coloured light shining through the bottles so I offset this to the right so it would show up. My light source was so close to the bottles they were heating up something fierce, but it was the only way the light would show through the bottle in the back and the red in the middle looks great. I was almost finished this one earlier today but realized I had lost the structure in some parts and had to correct it which caused some other issues but life's like that.

So on my way home from work today I stopped at the local art supply store and finally purchased Oil colours, water mixable of course can't wait to try them. wish me luck.

Red-wing Blackbird by Dave Froude

Title: Red Wing Black Bird
Medium:  Acrylic on 9 x 12 Canvas panel

Well, so here we are again, so this time I thought I would take up one of those paint challenges that are around on the ole internet, needed something a little different today so I choose this one from paint and draw together . I had fun with this, as this was the first time I have ever attempted to paint a bird. Don't know about the rest of you but I find it hard working from photographs as I don't do it very often and provided a challenge on it's own. Anyways, I have been looking at my Cat and thinking he may make a good model someday.

Beer bottle and friends by Dave Froude

Title: Beer Bottle and Friends
Medium: Acrylic on 10 x 12 canvas panel

Finally have a day off so as promised on Friday here is my latest work, struggled with this one, tangerines started out as limes but half way through this painting they transformed right in front of my eyes, good thing too as I must have painted them about 4 times before the change and thought about moving on to another canvas, although I found it hard to get into a rhythm today, managed to work it enough to be satisfied with it. Hope you agree.

I see I have a few more followers, thanks to all of you. Just so you know my schedule is a little lighter this week so I hope to post a little more often this week, until then.

Enjoy

Blue vase and tangerines

Title: Blue Vase and Tangerines
Medium: Acrylic on 9 x 12 Canvas panel

I am interested to hear what people think of this one. I was debating tightening this one up for a bit, so I slept on it and decided to leave it as is. I agonized over the tangerines in the shadow yesterday as I just couldn't trust my eyes but went ahead a painted them they way I saw them anyway. Lately I have found working wet on wet really suits me, which can be difficult with acrylics as they dry so fast, so I have to work areas quite quickly which is a nice change of pace, everything seems more fluid. I also have a new favorite brush, Winsor & Newton makes a great #8 filbert, which is about 1/2 inch wide with tapered edges and it's all I have been using of late.

This one is not for sale at the moment, there is a juried show coming up in a couple of weeks and this one may be my entry.

Tennis anyone

Title: Tennis ball study
Medium: Acrylic on Canvas panel 10 x 12

Well wait can I say about this one, um it's a tennis ball, but I guess that's pretty obvious at least I hope it is. I was planning to post something a little different, but I had a difficult weekend painting, nothing was working out, I started 2 paintings over the weekend and scrapped both of them, 1 was nearly completed, I still have that one so I may pick it up again in a little while, when I forget how frustrated I got with it. I figure this is par for the course so I try not to let it bother me too much.

With this painting being a rather simple subject, I tried to create some excitement with brush strokes and color selection, kept my palette rather again with this one which is turning out to be a great exercise.

Whatz up

So you may have noticed that there hasn't been a painting posted lately, sorry about that, I am currently working on one that I started today but it's going pretty slow at the moment, I can't believe it's already Friday, and I am just getting to paint for the first time this week.

I have been busy this week, I have signed on to do another website, hopefully this won't take too much of my time but it probably will. I have also donated a painting to Dog Guides of Canada to sell at there open house on Saturday April 16th, hopefully it sells well.

I made a set of rules for myself with the next bunch of paintings, although these will probably look very similar to previous paintings but still, rules none the less. Thanks to Aaron Lifferth's Painting a Day blog. So as I said I am working on the first but it may take a couple of days as my weekend looks like it filled up already.

Cheers and have a great day

Copper tea pot

Title: Copper Teapot
Medium: Acrylic on 9 x 12 Canvas panel

Needed a bit of change today from eggplants and limes. Saw this yesterday at my father in-laws place so I snatched it up, he has all kinds of this stuff laying around his house so I may sneak back in a couple of days. This cool tea pot has a container attached to the base that holds oil or some kind of fuel and once lit heats the pot from below

This first started out as a analogous colour study but added a bit of green so I guess I can call this one pseudo analogous. Paintings seem to be pretty well for me right now, not perfect but I like how things are progressing.

Win, place and show

Title: Win, place and show
Medium: Acrylic on 9 x 12 Canvas panel

Yet another painting with Eggplants and limes, like I said I before, I tend to get fixated on things. This title has  more then 1 meaning for me, Friday was the opening on the Beaux-Arts juried show in Brampton, where I had a piece in the show, and this was my first juried show I have made it in to so I was really excited to see my work hanging with other great works, I didn't receive any awards or anything but that's ok with me as I got to meet some really great artist and talked a little shop of course.

I see a real change in my work in the last month or so, for the better I think, I have been paying attention to brush work and contours also trying to keep things simplified. I have also been trying to keep my palette very limited for each painting, which seems to work out better.

The wall

Title: The Wall
Medium: Acrylic on 9 x 12 Canvas panel

Why the title The Wall you ask, well 2 reasons, the first well I listened to the album, Pink Floyd the wall while painting this yesterday, also the music must have made an impact because it wasn't until I had finished and took a step back did I realize I had arrange my objects to form a wall.

I enjoyed painting this yesterday, so much so that I didn't want to stop, so once I started I didn't stop until I was done, a full 8 hours or so, I remember painting some eggplants a couple years back and really enjoyed it then too, great purples and reds, these are eggplants from India apparently and unlike the normal variety are quite tiny.

Hey get out of there

Title: Hey get out of there
Medium: Acrylic 9 x 12

Looks like I am on a bit of a lime kick, I get a little fixated on things so this may continue until I feel I get this right. The jug in the background always give me a hard time but I am getting better at it. These limes are pretty much done, they have been hanging around my studio for over a week under my lights so it's time for them to leave, So I have to find some replacements first, I think I will try and find some small key limes and cut a few open next time.

In other news, Over the weekend I entered 2 paintings for a juried show in Brampton that starts this week and has a grand opening on Friday, of the 2 I entered 1 was selected, so happy, can't wait to see how it looks on a wall with other work around it. I am also preparing my submissions for the Port Credit art walk that starts at the end of May but the deadline is this Friday. Wish me luck.
