Turnips

Title: Turnips
Medium: Acrylic 10 x 12

I wanted to call this one the tide is turnips at first but thought it was a bit strange so Turnips it is. Spotted these yesterday at the grocery store while picking up daily supplies, so yummy. I really had to work hard to get the blue foreground to work, spent the better part of today working on it, some days things just flow very nicely and other days it a struggle to convey something, guess this is why we paint everyday, hoping that this time everything will work out great but it never does. Although it may not look like it, I spread it on fairly thick, it was a lot of fun.

Hungarian Folk Pottery Jug and flowers

Title: Hungarian Folk Pottery Jug and flowers (NFS)
Medium: Acrylic 10 x 12

First off I must give credit to my wife for this one, I spent the last 2 days in a daze wondering around the house aimlessly like a zombie looking for my next subject to paint, had a few ideas but wasn't really sold on anything. I think my wife got a bit fed up with me and grabbed a few things and said "here paint these", and proceeded to set them up the way you see them here. I think taking a few days to unwind really helped me focus today as this one flowed really nicely for me not much in the way of any hiccups or doubt.

I like this painting a lot, which I don't say very often, and I have been experimenting a lot the last few months but this style seems to suit me best.

wee three

Title: wee three
Medium: Acrylic 10 x 12

This is the first time in a while I have attempted to paint a flower, so I thought I would add a few other objects that I loved painting, the little green jar is hand made and and isn't very round but the colors are really great and the green cup works well with the other colors, I have been really exhausted lately and found it hard to get into a rhythm, tried yesterday but it just wasn't happening. Today was a little better, I used an open acrylic paint for some of this and really loved the working time with it, took hours to dry instead of 5 minutes.

I think I can safely say I have finally gotten away from my precise illustration techniques lately.

Colored glass study

 Title: Colored glass study
Medium: Acrylic 10 x 12

I definitely love a challenge, and with the last few paintings I have included a glass object, so I thought hey Dave, why not do one with all glass objects. Don't know what I was thinking. Right from the start this one gave me a fight with every brush stroke. I have been working on this one for 2 days solid, finally said enough is enough, another draw, I think I will but this up next to my easel and see in a few days if there is something I can do with it as I think this has some promise.

limey

Title: limey
Medium: Acrylic 10 x 12

I must say first off that my wife isn't a big fan of this painting, not because of the way it is painted, but for some strange reason she really hates stainless steel bowls and is angry that I set this one up in front and put the lovely lime green coffee mug in the back and it is being hidden which is creating tension for her. I think to appease her I will do another painting with the green mug up front.

I am happy with this one, each brush stroke went as planned, I didn't have to rework any area with this painting which doesn't happen very often. The glass turned out very nice and I think I will try and focus on colored glass for a few more works, perhaps a series with bottles and vases.

on another note I have entered a painting into the Visual Arts Mississauga Valentine's show and sale which starts Friday Feb. 11, it will be neat to see my work hanging on a wall next to other artists work, so excited.

Tomato segments

Title: Tomato Segments
Medium: Acrylic on canvas board 10 x 12

As promised here is my painting for the day, tomato segments, a simple painting or at least I thought so when I first started. I had to work quickly with this one, as the segments ( or tomato goo) started to dry out before my eyes. I had some difficulty with this as some of the translucency was a bit hard to paint convincingly, still not sure if I managed it right but it is better then I had originally. I think I will stop at the local thrift store and see what kind of colored glass bottles and jars I can find, had a fun time painting glass in the last few paintings.

So sad

Hello, everybody, I noticed I have been gaining more followers and visitors to my blog, which is great, means I am on the right track.

I didn't get an opportunity to get any painting done in the last 5 days, I work in the mornings at Dog Guides of Canada in the kennels looking after 70 or so dogs, it's hard work but I love doing it, and a dog I really liked became available so I thought I would bring her home to see if she would fit nicely in our home. She was a great dog and very obedient and well mannered but she is a border collie and unfortunately she needs quite a bit of attention, far more then I could offer her so it was with a heavy heart I had to take her back.

This was a hard decision to make of course but I thought it best for the both of us. So sad. But I know she will be easy to place, and I will get to see her everyday until she is adopted out.

It's early morning here so I am getting an early start on my next painting so I should have something to post later today or tomorrow, so check back soon.

Enjoy your day.

Tomatoes

Title: Tomatoes (until I can think of something)

Acrylic on Canvas board 10 x 12

This took quite a few tries ti get this one to this point, first when I sketched out my idea I accidentally grabbed a oil based conte  and was half way through when I noticed all my lines where showing through, so I had to start over on another canvas, good practice I guess, at least that's what I am telling myself.

I have had a busy week so far so not much painting happening at the moment, managed to get a good block of time this afternoon at least to get this one done, hopefully the snow will let up and I can stop shoveling.
