Pomegranate massacre

I am back for a long break for painting, after my Grandmother passed away I started 2 small paintings but my cat decided to have a nap in the middle of my still life, and the 2nd dried out too fast before I could get anything down on canvas, guess the subjects just wasn't meant to be.

This painting is my favorite painting done to date, everything just seemed to gel as I was working on it, usually there is a point at which I hate what I am working on, sort of an ugly duckling stage but not this one, haven't figured out the reason though. Lately I have been looking into oils, tried a few times when I was younger but it got really messy, perhaps I try it again, means buying a whole new set of supplies.

I call this one "Pomegranate massacre" and for whatever reason I decided to give this one away as a gift to my sister, at least someone will enjoy it, rather than sitting in a pile on the floor in my studio. My goal is to have enough works to have my own show, hopefully I can manage to do this this year, in saying that I have no idea where to start, I guess I better get on it.

10 x 12 Acrylic painting.

Going out of town for a few days.

I was hoping to get some time this week to work on a painting but I my dear old gramma J passed away so I have to go out of town for a few days, weather isn't very good so the 8 hour trip on a good day may turn into an all day affair, hoping to be back Sunday but if the weather is not going to cooperate than it may be Monday.

Until then here is a painting to hold you over.

Still Life
16 x 20 acrylic

I call this one... actually don't have a name for this one, maybe "Still life" or "Persistence"

I struggled with this one quite a bit, the apple, cloth and background took a bit of time working with them until I was satisfied,  but the plum, took about 10 tries to get it right, I was getting a bit frustrated with it, agonized over for a few days painting it over and over which most have been hours and hours, on my final attempt it must have taken 5 minutes including mixing the colors, paint was flying everywhere, but I am glad to say my persistence paid off, I love the deep rich colors and the light blue highlights, really makes it pop, at least for me.

Be back soon.

The unlikely pair.

Here is one of my personal favorites,

This acrylic painting is 16 x 20 titled "The unlikely pair". Eggplant and yellow tomatoes.

I did this one about 4 months ago, I was wondering around the local supermarket and spotted these, the colors were amazing so I bought a few, I was pretty happy that I was able to achieve the rich purple's and bright yellows. The highlights and shadowing turned out better than I had hoped in the eggplants and the complimentary colors of the tomatoes works really well for me. Although I stayed pretty true to the shape of the subject the painting itself is pretty loss, more in the direction I want to go.

Cheers and have a great day.

Hidden doorway

Happy Monday!

I set up a still life on Saturday nut have yet been able to find time to sit down and paint, I am afraid that by the time I do the subject will expire, oh well life and death I suppose, about to head out as I am still staining a staircase for the next few days. So while I spend my time at work he is another blast from the past.

This painting I call "Hidden Doorway" created about 6 months ago.

16 x 20 acrylic painting.

While my wife and I where in Hungary a few years back we stayed with her family and they had this gate in the back with a pretty run down shed, which I also painted. The Gate actually blocked the view a of a great garden and objects scattered around the place.

The gate itself was really corroded and covered with some great purples and oranges as well as twisted metal holding the gate closed, the old wooden post was filled with deep cracks and holes, this whole subject was just begging to be captured.

Have a great day and enjoy.

Still haven't thought of a title.

I know how about winter's is coming.

It's a balmy 1 degree C (about 34 degrees for our American friends) today with a good north wind blowing in, feels a lot colder than that. Been busy this week staining a oak staircase which has kept me pretty busy, I will post a few images when it is done.

In the meantime I am posting a painting I did about 8 months ago, one of my first attempt at acrylic paintings in a while and I thought it was fitting considering the temperature outside.

This painting is 16 x 20. I call it "The Cold Drifter"

Although it not a favorite, and wasn't when I finished it, this one is growing on me. Again a tight painting style but there are aspects of it where I am loosening up a bit. Over time I will post more paintings where I can see some definite changes in my painting style. Until next time enjoy.

No real title, maybe I will think of one later

Work life is keeping me pretty busy so I haven't had much time in front of a canvas this week, only time enough to finish the butternut squash painting. started one a few days ago but my cat decided to have a nap on it half way through. hmm maybe he is telling my something.

While I set up for the next piece I will post a few of my earlier paintings as time allows.

I am posting my first painting I did a year ago, which started my passion for painting once again, after 15 years of working in front of a CRT monitor I had to do something else,

My lovely wife were returning home just after holloween and I saw the pumpkin we had bought for Halloween on the front porch, and something switched on. I needed to paint, I dug out all the old paint supplies and took out a fresh sheet of watercolor paper that my wife had bought for me, a year earlier, in the hopes that I would need to paint again, and so it started.....I spent the next few day locked in my workspace with the still- life set up. I painted until it was done. The passion was back and it is slowly taking over all aspects of my life.

The artwork is a full sheet at 30 x 22 and although it is a pretty tight painting, still looks pretty good to me.

This painting is my latest work.
